Turning up the Heat

Well we've all been in the heat wave throughout the country and it appears that we in the U.P. will get a break starting tonight. It's breezy and beautiful out tonight. We ended up putting in our air conditioner on Friday and ran it pretty much nonstop on low and it cooled the whole house well. It was the best thing we've boughten on a whim back in '99 when I was pregnant with Katia. It was over a hundred degrees in Grand Rapids for several days downstate and we had enough. We bought an Amana window unit and have been very happy with it- I highly recommend this brand if you are in the market for one.

We did find some relief and fun swimming at Portage Point on Lake Michigan though the past two nights. It's windy there all the time cause it's on a point so it was very refreshing. As soon as we walked far enough to reach the sand path, Tayton just started laughing so hard cause he knew where we were going! It was hilarious. He loves the water, the sand, and all the dogs that he sees there. It was a blast! Katia and Tyler are old enough to really enjoy it too.

Last week I decided to try my cousin Tia's idea of creating menus for the week. I've learned so much from her in the past year! It went great! I think I only spent like $30 on groceries and we didn't eat out once. I sat down to create this week's menu and will shop tomorrow. It's great to write it down and then made a list right from the meals- so much easier! And for some reason, writing down PBJ's for lunch feels okay, especially when the kids will eat anything with freezer jam now! When the kids ask what's for lunch or dinner and I know exactly from day to day, it seems to put their minds at ease and we have less squabbling and complaining too. I know it sounds weird, but it's working great! Thank you Tia, my whole family is much happier with this little piece of organization.

Tomorrow is chiro day- Katia will have her first visit and Tayton will have a checkup. We're hoping to boost Katia's immune system before school starts back up and see if we can see a healthier little girl and thus, less viruses going through the family!

Friday is Nathan's 17th birthday. He's told my mom that he'll be moving out right after. To where, we don't know. Apparently, there's a new law that seventeen year olds can now move out without being emancipated- a very dumb law if you ask me. The whole thing just really bums me out, but what I have learned is that I don't think any of my kids will get their driver's license until they are eighteen. Everything changes once kids have their license and I think that's where alot of problems can arise. Please keep him in your prayers.

Have a good week everyone!

ooh, good idea! It does take me some time to come up with them, but I'm sure it will get easier eh? Like this week, I had all these great recipes to make, went to the store and found out that turkey tenderloin and chicken tenderloins are not in the budget at five dollars a pop! So I have to come up with something else. We don't get the sales papers and that would help plan I'm sure. Thanks again!
