Guess where Tyler is right now? He was invited to go on a chartered king salmon fishing trip for the evening! You know what that means- we'll be eating SALMON this week baby! I can't wait! He'll be home really late tonight and it's stormy here, but hopefully not there. He's over near Nahma off the Big Bay de Noc and we've been privledged with fresh salmon gifts from Paul's cousin that fished that area a couple years ago. It's so good when it's fresh- like thick Whitefish!
So this morning, Tyler's buddy Brandon arrived at our door, bedhead and all and was so excited to see if Tyler could go. Tyler was ecstatic to say the least, the average salmon out there is 30 inches- Tyler right away said, "Um I have to work on my pole for while before we go cause a 30 inch fish would break probably my pole and line!" Brandon said, "oh no you don't have to bring anything, the charter guy has all the poles, everything." He then went on to explain how when his mom was in the hospital, her roommate apparently married to this famous fisherman, told them that they would like to donate this trip for the benefit they were having for Brandon's mom. Brandon's mom actually died before the benefit occurred, but you could just see how much this gesture really meant to him. Makes you really think.
So does anyone have a good salmon recipe to share? You can post them on here if you do, I'd sure appreciate it:0)

Thanks Tia! He caught the biggest fish of the bunch- not sure of the length- up to Tyler's hip- or just over the length of a large cooler and 18 pounds!!! Unbelieveable! And then he caught a smaller one- about 14 inches too that he was able to keep. Paul says the smaller salmon actually taste better, don't know why that would be. I found a recipe for it today that had 2 cups fresh sliced mushrooms, 4 garlic cloves, 1/2 cup of sliced green onions, 4 thinly sliced carrots, olive oil, 2 med. oranges and oregano, salt and pepper and you put it all in tinfoil and bake at 350 for 30-40minutes. I thought it sounded pretty good, but when I told my mom, she said ICK- just bake it in onions. With salmon, don't they usually put something kind of sweet in there with most recipes?- seems that way. Like you said, oj or lemon juice.
Now, millet cakes- I read your blog- I don't know if these stores up here sell millet. I've never had it before. Paul's kind of weird about new things. He's so traditional!
