Tyler caught a total of nineteen pounds of Salmon the other night! And that was two fish- one was eighteen pounds and one was one:-) He had a blast, got sick, got sick some more and caught some fish in the midst of it all! No pictures were taken though and he came home with his fish all fillet'd. I was bummed about that- truely a once in a lifetime event, and his friend's step dad didn't bring a camera! Oh well, as Tyler said, "I have the memory Mom."
So we cooked some salmon last night- one fillet three ways! I didn't want to make one style and have everyone not like it and then have it go to waste. We all chose our favorites and it was a good thing we had a variety, but none would have gone to waste cause that fish was awesome plain! My cousin gave me her dad's recipe- a broiled maple teriyaki that I just added some garlic to-that was Katia and my favorite. A grilled onion/lemon butter style- Paul's favorite and a spicy herbed version also in a lemon butter. I liked that one too. They were all good really and Tayton could attest to that. He kept saying, "mmm. mmm. mmm. fish, mmm." We have a few bags in the freezer for later and I'd like to try a recipe with a good white sauce. I was surprised when doing some searches on Taste of Home's website, how many different things you can make with salmon.
I went to a party a couple weeks ago- it was a Tastefully Simple party. They are a consultant/home show type of party, but they sell mixes for very simple dishes- breads, soups, dip mixes, salsa, desserts, spices, etc. I had been to a party a while back, loved their stuff, but we rarely see many shows in this areas because there's only one person in the area that sells it. So I decided to have a party in October and I'm looking forward to it. One of the things I bought was a mix called Tuscan Valley cheese ball- it has olives and sun dried tomatoes in it and is rolled in a crunchy breading. Most of their items don't have MSG that I have found which is a plus as I'm allergic to it. I'm curious to see if I can duplicate this particular cheese ball without the mix later on. Seems simple enough.
Well, I have clothes to hang and floors to wash so I better get at it.
