Something to remember

My life from the earliest that I can remember, has been entwined with music. I remember thinking at one time that if I knew all the Bob Seger songs that my dad loved, it would somehow bring me closer to him. I can remember when he was trucking back when I was in about sixth grade and there was a song very popular at that time called "Somewhere out there". I believe it was a theme song to a cartoon movie, but not sure which one. From that song, I believed that at night when I looked at the stars or during the day when I looked at the clouds, that my dad could see the same ones and it would bring us closer and that he wasn't thousands of miles away. Some of my best memories of music was when my dad would play his harmonica to Charlie McCoy songs. My dad learned how to play the harmonica from my Grandpa Leo and doesn't follow music notes, but does it all by ear. He's amazing when he plays it, I just love to watch him. Last summer he played my all time favorite Charlie McCoy song and Joy videoed it.
Songs can trigger sad memories for me as well. Like certain scents from days gone by, the smell of construction paper in school, paste, all bring a flood of memories as vivid as the day. But songs can transcend you back to the moment when you realized that your parents were going their "Separate Ways"(Journey). I hear that song and it still hurts.
For the most part though, music is something I long for, something that speaks to me. I have an eclectic taste of it- I like Irish folk, I like any type of folk, some blues, rock, Christian, a few country, hip hop, and the music my kids make. A tradition that we have is going to my dad to dance. The kids love to listen to Grandpa and Grandma's music and dance and get silly. I know that it's something that they will forever remember and cherish. I found this picture and hadn't realized how long we have been dancing over there. Mostly just the kids and the grandfolks :-) but sometimes you just might catch a glimpse of Paul and I shakin' a leg. I love it!

Gina What a sweet photo....whoknew my bro liked to dance or that he even really acomplished the harmonica...I'd so love to hear him play it. You come by the love of music naturally....and I'm so glad you find enjoyment in so many different styles. I believe it is the language of the soul. So dance away sweet girl. Oh Gigi's computer came yesterday, we are trying to get in touch with our friend Dano to go and hook it up..also to put a fire wall and virus protection on it. Hopefully he will be available this weekend. Please tell Joy it came.

My Dad and Joy are always dancing. I thought everyone knew about his playing the harmonica. Joy was able to put the video on a DVD, but I can't play it on anything cause it's a weird type dvd or something. I think she might have sent Grandma a copy. I'll ask about it. Glad to hear the computer came. I wonder if it came with Norton- that would be nice although I ended up uninstalling my latest one. It was cumbersome to work around. I think there are better ones out there.
