My little three year old swallowed a magnet Saturday morning. Tayton told Daddy that he had swallowed a bead of his sissy's. They are magnetic beads that she got last Christmas. He had more in his hand so we weren't real positive how many he actually swallowed. So...since Paul had forgotten to tell me about this- we went to the ER about six hours later. After three hours, and one x-ray it was confirmed that he did indeed swallow a magnet and that it had moved into his bowels already. They said to watch and listen for it to pass in the toilet in the next day or so. We haven't seen it yet so I'm not sure if he's passed it or not. They said it would "tink"in the toilet. So last night, I went to a friend's house, came home and Tayton was on couch sick. He had good fever and looked awful. A fever was on the checklist they gave me in my instructions to come back to the ER. So this morning, we went to the ER again. Tayton and I waited an hour and still hadn't been called just to the triage part. It's very possible it's a viral thing that is causing the fever so I told the receptionist that we would try the walk in clinic instead as it was going to take even longer than three hours this trip. I'm an impatient red head I guess. Our hospital irritates the daylights out of me- nurses standing around in an ER under no real stress it would seem and yet they make you wait for hours. It's caused me several times to go to other hospitals, but out of convenience I still end up in that same old place.
So... I got home to two messages. One from the new clinic, cancelling my appt for tonight at 5pm because the dr. there says it could be an obstruction and that we should go to ER. Yeah- kind of thought that myself- but no one else seems to think it's a big enough emergency. The other from our awesome pediatrician in Marquette who was just calling to see if we'd like to schedule a follow up x-ray because he had seen the films from our ER visit!! What doctor actually reads ER visits and follows up! He continues to Awe me. It's not even his participating hospital, but he is keeping track of what is going on with his patients. He's one in a million I tell you. He has ordered an xray for Tayton this afternoon at the dr.'s office and then will be here in Escanaba tomorrow and can squeeze him in the morning if he's still running a fever. Yeah! Marquette General Physicians ROCK!!!! Dr. Brezyzinski ROCKS!!! So he'll likely call us tonight and let us know about the xrays cause that's just the kind of dr. he is. Blessed- we're blessed to have him.
