At my house

Today we're hibernating, bracing for the first real snow storm of the year. We're supposed to get 3-5 inches with some significant wind. Tayton and I are hibernating that is...everyone else is where they are supposed to be.
Paul has been taking my car to work this week. It's better on gas and we need all the savings we can get right now. Well, Tyler has basketball practice after school until 4:30. So Paul will be picking him up and bringing him either to his work for an hour or they both will come home for the day. If Paul works through his lunch, he'll be able to leave at 4:30. Then tonight the kids and I will go to church for Word of Life. Most days, we could make it with one car with some planning, but it's so hard on days when you have a little one that is sick and you're not sure if it might require a trip to the Dr. So that's the little chance I took today. Tayton has been fighting a cold for over week and it moved into his chest yesterday so now he's coughing, but mostly at night or naptime. No fever yet that I know of. He felt a little warm during the night(he still wakes in the night and comes to our room).
So I have bread rising this morning, I'll make some chili and a strawberry cake and it's funny how being domestic or nesting for a storm can make you feel so cozy! Like you are honkerin down for the storm that just might keep you in a few days- but that sometimes doesn't end up coming. It's fun anyway.
I got my first Christmas card yesterday from the sweetest little Swedish Pastor I know. You guys might know him, Gene Slagstad? He's in his 70's and has been by far the most wise Pastor's I have ever met. He has taught a few Sunday School classes at our church that I've been able to be in and fills in when our pastor is gone or whatever. He's published some books, two of which I have on the book of Revelations and poem book. I was so surpised to get their card because they have spent most of the year filling in at another church and we haven't seen them much. His wife always sends me a birthday card with a nice note and they are just such thoughtful people. Over the next couple of weeks, I'm going to post some of Gene's poems that he included with his letter that he's recently written. Paul and I enjoyed reading them last night and I think they will bless you all too. Here's one for today. I think my dad will appreciate this one especially.

THE BETTER VIEW

In route, as I looked backed,
Through the rear view mirror,
About my journey,
I saw things clearer.

I thought ahead,
I had the better view,
But there were things,
I never knew!

I saw the traffic,
Up ahead,
Whither the lights,
Were green: or red.

I was busy,
Speeding on,
Taking life,
With; a stretch and yawn.

That detour sign,
I hated so,
Why it was there,
I did not know.

But now I'm told,
A flooded road,
Across the lanes,
The water flowed.

My tire blew,
That made me mad,
It delayed my trip,
That made me sad.

Over the hill,
Was a nine car crash!
I could not see,
Beyond the dash!

Looking back,
God also revealed,
From the rear view mirror,
Some things are sealed.

Since I just got relogged on to blogs, I have just a couple of thing to say. I enjoyed your post and will share it with your Dad. I hope this year will be different for everyone and that everyone can live in God's grace and be less judgemental--.

Today was Renee's birthday so they came by after they went to dinner and stayed till 8:30 or so.

I too this morning felt like staying home and enjoying the "homey" atmosphere that an oncoming storm can bring. This morning, when getting out of bed, I could hear the wind whistling by our window and though I should just crawl under the covers again. Even Shifter was in no hurry to move. I do enjoy the seasons though. Take care, Love, Joy
