Will there be a reward in heaven for being self sufficient or for being quiet in times when you really don't want to? I have to bite my tongue many times or not push send on the computer when I really want to. Does God keep track of those times when we take the higher road- I believe he does.
Tyler has football camp for two days starting tomorrow. It is an intense training for three and half hours a day, non contact- and is just to make them better players. All we ever hear about around here lately is football, football, football. He's planning where he'll go to college and play football at age 11! It's not an overnight thing- he played football at school with his class buddies every day, at every recess the last two years. One of the other 5th grade teachers is also a football coach for the senior high school and so he's taught Tyler some things, but mostly has given Tyler a sense of a skill in the game and confidence. There is an area football league here called Pop Warner as well. It's very expensive and we've had to tell Tyler no for the past two years. So we assured him he could go to this camp thing and when he's in 7th grade, he can play it if he still wants to then. The camp is still kind of pricey at $30, but they do get a shirt and Tyler has pitched in some and is working off the rest. We were talking about it today and he said, I don't really like having to work for stuff. I explained that he's growing up and this is part of the process. When there is something you really want, you HAVE to work for it. Yes, self sufficiency. I saw the light bulb go on for him and he's growing up, my little man.
