It was so hot here early this week and now, well- it's 30 degrees cooler. I watched leaves fall in the pool yesterday. My garden is looking rough except for the flashes of red from my ripe tomatoes. School started Tuesday. Tyler had one football training in the heat and now the rest will most likely be in the 60's for a while. Dance will start Monday and Word of Life also starts next week. I have the fifth and sixth grade girls again. Katia really wanted me to teach her group, but next year she'll be in my group anyway.
Tayton is not going to preschool as of now. I'm trying it at home which we started also Tuesday. I am just using what we have here now, but am looking out for a preschool workbook that isn't just Blues' clues or Seasame Street.
Tyler and I went for a bike ride and walk last night. I hadn't ridden my bike in a while and I'm always a bit nervous on it cause it's a men's bike. Anyway, that was fine. We came back and parked the bikes and went for the walk part of it. Well, what a "grace" I am. We were on the shoulder of the road and I could hear a car coming. I started to merge to the grass and the drop from the shoulder to the grass was like nearly a foot drop and I twisted my ankle and fell right on my knee on the blacktop. How embarrassing even if only Tyler saw me! My knee is all skinned up. I was more worried about my heel, but it's okay this morning. Katia and I walked at the beach on Monday. I was reveling in the fact that I can go for walks again! My heels are really doing alot better during the day so I'm really thankful for that.
Last week, a friend's son died. It was a such a sad sad deal. I grew up with him, but didn't know him all that well. He was always nice to me compared to most. We have four hospitality teams in our church. Each team takes three months of the year for funerals or special events. Well, August is our month so I got a call from our captain last Wednesday. She was moving and was unable to plan the funeral luncheon or to help out with it at all. So she asked me to take it on. I was a little overwhelmed, mostly because Elaine is such a dear sweet person and I wanted to make sure the lunch was especially nice for her family.
We had no idea how many people to plan on. I was surprised how much is involved in planning something like that. How many hotdishes, salads, desserts, jellos, and how many tables and chairs to set up, decorating, and organizing servers, cleanup help, men to set up and move tables, and then calling all the people on each team to bring food. Then there's shopping for the meat and cheese trays, veggie tray, fruit trays and without any idea of how many people you are feeding. Well, with Judy Frazier's help, it went fine. We had just enough ham and hotdishes. The funeral was quite large, we had 173 that stayed for the lunch. We set up all the tables and chairs that our church has- seating for 167, but it all worked out. At one point, we had heard that there was 200 people there so I was concerned about the seating situation, but apparently people had to get back to work. It was definately a learning experience, but I was glad to do it. Nothing broke, we only kicked one circuit breaker, and no burns:-) And I had extra help from other ladies on different teams who weren't even asked to help! So it didn't matter about all the details I thought I had to control- God had it all worked out anyway.
