Let's get this straight....
After a day full of laundry and cleaning, and playing Thomas, playing games, making breakfast, lunch, and supper, and doing homework, and bringing Tyler to basketball practice( 4 days a week), doing dishes again, vacumming, getting showers for the kids, getting kids tucked into bed, retucking our toddler a couple times, I decided to sit and rest- catch up on blogs at 10pm. A full day as usual- not much time to sit and write a blog especially since this blog takes several attempts to just login. It's not a priority I guess. But there are others who do make a priority of blogging which I enjoy and appreciate after a long day. Well, that is until I read a disturbing blog that those that don't homeschool are merely raising idiots. Yup, you read that right- just a bunch of idiots around here. How does this world continue to go around without people that do get a higher education is my question? I mean, why not homeschool for college as well! We shant rely on public or private college education, they are just another group of idiots right? Most assuredly the professors were taught in a public school system. Can't trust them to know what they are talking about, right? Give me a break! I'm not saying that all public schools are the ideal choice- most likely not- but it just grinds me how people can make a blanketed statement like that- it's right up there with prejudism. To each their own- homeschooling is not for everyone, but it certainly doesn't mean my kids will be idiots either! Sheesh!

Yikes! Which blog was that?! More than likely they thought their audience was only fellow homeschoolers and they were using a stereoptype. Not too much unlike many public schoolers who cast homeschoolers as bunch of sheltered prairie muffins ;-). Happens all the time but it's still sad to put people in predetermined boxes. For what it's worth, I hear MI and MN schools are much better than the national average, especially in the smaller towns and elementary grades. I'd consider public education but it would matter quite a LOT on where we were. For instance, here many of the teachers don't have full degrees and meth is a problem even in the late elementary grades. This particular small town is not one where I'd trust my kids were getting a quality education. Yours is also one of the rare ones that offers a music program at T's age, let alone strings! So you are in a special place and I'd say your kids probably have a better chance than many in this country. At any rate, what I hear you saying is that you are tired and I want to join your chorus cuz I am too! :-)
Thanks Tia for this. It was your friend Misty's site- I enjoyed reading her blogs prior to now:-) You're probably right, she probably didn't realize that other people besides homeschoolers were reading her blog.
It's not that the thought of homeschooling our kids is even that far fetched- Paul's just not in support of it. And in many ways, I know he's right- but I agree about the peer pressures that younger and younger kids are put under in the school system and it scares the daylights out of me. But then I look around at Christian families around me, most all of them have children in our public schools and they are raising fine kids with morals and strength in right and wrong. I can only hope that my kids will remain strong in their beliefs, in their faith and hope that it carries them through. Lots of prayers too!
Misty said something elsewhere yesterday that pushed someone's hot button...she's pregnant with her 6th, due in a few weeks, is feeling crowded in her house and has sometimes had what we can call a "tumultuous" experience. She'd be heartbroken to know that something she said hurt or offended someone else but her "meter" is probably a little off kilter right now. I apologize on her behalf. :-).
Parents are the ones responsible for how their children are educated and maybe they "do" that a variety of ways. What matters is that you feel good about how YOU are handling YOUR kids' education. And you are right to do what is on the "same page" as your husband; I've seen too many wives want to homeschool against their husband's wishes and it's miserable. It's too hard to do with less than a team and 100% agreement.
Onward; my toddler is not going to let me linger longer....
Thanks again Tia- isn't it her seventh? I thought I counted six in her picture. Cute family and being pregnant does tend to make people more opinionated at times- I remember that, LOL!
